The original PUTTSTR8! training device was designed to develop a repeatable putting stroke that will create the neural pathways, or 'muscle-memory,' involved in making a perfect putt. It provides for control over basic aim, read and speed, as well as a consistent putter blade and ball path that will get the ball in the hole more often. The game of golf continues to evolve, however, from application of technology to manufacturing of equipment, training techniques, and devices.

With the combined experience of its co-founders in both the fields of product development and golf-related teaching and training, then, it was inevitable that the first PUTTSTR8! product (now dubbed the PUTTSTR8! ‘Classic’) would quickly evolve into an advanced putting trainer called the PUTTSTR8! + --  a new product that many top golf coaches and players have called “a real game-changer."

One of the world’s most noted is Doug Wood, an international golf coach and trainer. After evaluating (and loving) the PUTTSTR8! Classic, he suggested that “ While many devices work at controlling the putter blade and path, what has been missing in the market is a training device  that also has the ability to control the putter shaft plane”.

Friendly with the PUTTSTR8! team, Doug thought that if the PUTTSTR8! Classic device could be modified to add higher rails at variable angles, the company would indeed have "a real game changer."

Supporting Doug’s point, there are any number of rudimentary techniques and crude ‘devices’ currently employed by creative golfers with the goal of supporting such ‘Putter Shaft Plane Control,” including the use of PVC pipes stuck in the ground with a piece of string attached a few inches above the ground for the putter shaft to rest upon. Others just use a collection of various sizes of PVC pipe. Of course, the idea of professional golfers and true enthusiasts using this kind of gerry rigging seems, at least, incongruous.

The PUTTSTR8! team took this as a challenge and, after many prototypes, the PUTTSTR8! + was born, incorporating much of the PUTTSTR8! Classic’s core design, with the addition of a 6.5“ high rail available at 70 & 85 degree angles to accommodate the golfer’s stance, height, and putter length.
